First, find out which problem you have
Open Google Maps on your phone and search your exact business name, then the name plus "Madurai". Then sign in to business.google.com (or search your business name while signed in to the Google account that manages the profile) and look at the status shown on the profile.
- Not found even by exact name: verification, suspension, a removed listing or a wrong address is the likely cause
- Found by name, but not for category searches: relevance, distance or prominence (a ranking issue)
- Found, but at the wrong place on the map: a pin or address problem
- Two results for your business: a duplicate listing splitting your reviews and signals
Cause 1: The profile is not verified
Unverified profiles often do not appear publicly, or appear with limited information. Google offers verification by video recording, phone, SMS, email or postcard depending on the business, and it can ask for more than one attempt.
Fix: in the profile, choose Verify and follow the option offered. For video verification, record one continuous clip showing your signboard outside, the street or nearby landmarks, and proof that you manage the business inside, such as the counter, equipment or a key to the premises. A shop on Kamarajar Salai or in Anna Nagar should show the board and the road in the same take. If verification keeps failing, check that the address matches exactly what is on your signboard and documents.
Cause 2: The profile is suspended or under review
Google suspends profiles it believes break its guidelines. Common triggers in local markets are keyword-stuffed names (for example "Best SEO Company Madurai Ltd" instead of the real name), virtual offices or addresses without staffed premises, several profiles for one location, and sudden edits to name, address and category at the same time.
Fix: correct the cause first (use your real business name as shown on your signboard and documents, remove duplicates, use a real staffed address), then file a reinstatement request from the profile with genuine evidence such as a GST or trade licence certificate, a utility bill and photos of the signboard. Do not create a new profile while the old one is suspended: that usually makes things worse.
Cause 3: The address or map pin is wrong
In older parts of Madurai, Google can place a pin on the wrong lane, on the next junction or at an old address. Customers then see your profile in the wrong place or not at all in their area.
Fix: edit the address so it matches your signboard and documents, then drag the pin to your actual entrance. Changing the address may trigger re-verification, so plan the change rather than making repeated edits. If you serve customers at their location and do not want walk-ins, set yourself up as a service-area business and hide the address, listing only the areas you genuinely serve.
Cause 4: Duplicate listings
Duplicates appear when someone (a previous employee, an old agency, or Google itself from directory data) created another profile. Reviews and calls get split between them, and Google may show the wrong one.
Fix: search Maps for your name, phone number and address. If you can access the duplicate, remove it from the account. If you cannot, use "Suggest an edit" and report it as a duplicate, or contact Google Business Profile support. Keep the profile with the most reviews and the correct address.
Cause 5: The category does not match the search
The primary category is one of the strongest signals for which searches you appear in. A textile wholesaler listed as "Clothing store", or a physiotherapy centre listed only as "Medical clinic", may never show for the search it actually wants.
Fix: choose the most specific primary category that describes your main business, add genuine secondary categories, and fill in services, products and the description. Look at the categories used by competitors who appear for your target search in your part of the city.
Cause 6: It is showing, but ranking too low to see
Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. Distance means a customer in Mattuthavani and one in Thirunagar can see different businesses for the same search, so a single check from your office does not tell you how you rank across the city.
Fix: improve what you can control. Keep the profile complete and active with photos and regular posts, ask every genuine customer for a review and reply to all of them, keep your name, address and phone consistent across directories such as Justdial and IndiaMART, and make sure your website has a page for each main service with the same details. Our SEO services in Madurai page explains how we check map rankings from several points across the city.
Other reasons a profile disappears
- The business is marked temporarily or permanently closed (sometimes by a public edit)
- Opening hours are blank or wrong, so the profile is filtered out of "open now" searches
- A recent name, address or category change is being reviewed
- Reviews were removed after a spam filter update, lowering prominence
- A Google spam or core update shifted local results; compare dates in your Performance report
What it typically costs to get help
You can fix most of these issues yourself for free. If you hire help in Tamil Nadu, one-off profile audits and clean-ups from freelancers and agencies commonly range from a few thousand rupees, and ongoing monthly profile management is priced higher depending on posts, reviews work and reporting. These are general market ranges, not our prices; be wary of anyone who promises a guaranteed top position on Maps, because nobody controls Google’s results.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my Google Business Profile not showing on Google Maps?
The most common causes are an unverified profile, a suspension, a wrong address or pin, a duplicate listing, a category that does not match the search, or low ranking from where the customer is searching. Search your exact business name first to tell a visibility problem from a ranking problem.
How long does it take for a new Google Business Profile to show on Maps?
After successful verification, a profile often appears within a few days, but Google can take longer, especially after video verification or a review. Edits to name, address or category can also take several days to show.
How do I fix a suspended Google Business Profile?
Correct the guideline issue first, such as a keyword-stuffed name, a virtual address or duplicate profiles, then submit a reinstatement request with genuine documents like a trade licence, GST certificate, utility bill and signboard photos. Do not create a new profile meanwhile.
Why does my business show for its name but not for "near me" searches?
That is a ranking issue. Google weighs relevance, distance and prominence, so improve your categories, services, photos, reviews and website, and remember results change depending on where the searcher is.
Can I have more than one Google Business Profile in Madurai?
Only one per real, staffed location. Creating profiles for areas where you have no premises breaks Google’s guidelines and risks suspension.
