Step 1: Verification and ownership
Verify the profile using the method Google offers (video, phone, email or other options). Make sure the owner is a company Google account you control, not a former staff member or a previous agency. Add your agency as a manager, never as the only owner.
Step 2: Name, category and address
- Use your real business name, as on signage and SSM registration. Adding keywords such as "Best Aircond Service KL" to the name breaks the guidelines and risks suspension.
- Choose the most specific primary category, then add secondary categories that truly apply
- Use a real, staffed address. Virtual offices and co-working addresses without staffed presence are a common cause of suspension.
- Service-area businesses should hide the address and list the areas served
Step 3: Description, services and products
Write the description in plain language: what you do, for whom and where. Malaysia is multilingual, so consider adding services and posts in Bahasa Malaysia as well as English, and Chinese or Tamil if your customers use them. Fill in the Services and Products sections with real offerings and price ranges where possible.
Step 4: Photos and posts
Upload real photos of your premises, team and work, and keep adding them. Use posts for offers, events and updates, especially before festive periods such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year and Deepavali when search behaviour changes.
Step 5: Reviews and Q&A
Ask customers for reviews with your short review link, and reply to every review. Do not buy reviews or offer incentives. Seed the Questions and Answers section with genuine common questions and answer them from the business account.
Step 6: Track results
Check Performance in the profile monthly: calls, direction requests, website clicks and the search terms people used. Add UTM parameters to the website link so you can see profile traffic in Google Analytics.

Frequently asked questions
Is a Google Business Profile worth it for a small business in Malaysia?
Yes, for any business that serves customers locally. It is free, it appears in Google Maps and the local pack, and for many SMEs it brings more calls and direction requests than the website.
Is Google Business Profile free in Malaysia?
Yes. Creating and managing a Google Business Profile is free. Be wary of callers claiming you must pay Google to stay listed.
Why was my Google Business Profile suspended?
Common reasons are keywords added to the business name, a virtual or unstaffed address, duplicate listings, or suspicious edits. Fix the cause, then request reinstatement through Google.
Should my profile be in English or Bahasa Malaysia?
Use the language your customers search in. Many Malaysian businesses use English with Bahasa Malaysia in services and posts. Keep the business name exactly as registered.
Can Static Savvy Media manage my Google Business Profile?
Yes. Our Malaysia team optimises and manages profiles for businesses in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and other states. Call +60 12-453 7030.
